In a world that often asks women to give without end, Yemoja invites us to remember where true nurturance begins: within. She calls us back to the waters of life, back to the womb of creation, and back to the sacred power that lives in our very being.

Who is Yemoja?

Yemoja, Mother of Fishes, is one of the most revered Orisha within the Ifa-Orisha tradition. She embodies the vast ocean, the nourishing waters that sustain all life. Her essence is one of compassion, care, emotional healing, and boundless love.

As the protector of children and guardian of women, especially during birth and moments of rebirth, Yemoja holds the sacred wisdom of beginning again. She is honored not only in the Yoruba lands of West Africa but across the diaspora in Cuba, Brazil, and beyond. Her waters touch every shore.

Why Yemoja Matters for Women Today

Today’s world prizes productivity and endless striving, often leaving women depleted and disconnected from their true source of power. Yemoja offers a different way.

She teaches us that rest is sacred. That compassion for ourselves is necessary. That nurturing — for ourselves, for others, for the earth — is not a weakness, but a profound strength.

In returning to Yemoja, we return to the sacred waters within us. We remember that healing is not a luxury; it is a birthright. We reconnect with ancestral traditions that honor feminine wisdom, empowering us to live fuller, freer lives.

A Sacred Offering: Oriki Yemoja

As a gift to all daughters of the waters, I offer this sacred Oriki — a prayer and praise to Yemoja — read in both Yoruba and English.

About This Oriki Yemoja Video: Experience the beauty of Yemoja, the revered Orisha of the ocean and motherhood, through this sacred Oriki. Spoken in both Yoruba and English, this prayer offers a deep connection to ancestral waters and divine feminine healing. Whether you are exploring the Ifa-Orisha tradition or simply seeking the nurturing embrace of the sacred feminine, this Oriki will nourish your spirit.

May this sacred song awaken the remembrance that you are held, you are loved, and you are powerful beyond measure.

Reflection Questions:

  • Where in your life are you being called to soften, heal, or return to compassion?

  • How can you allow yourself to be nurtured as deeply as you nurture others?

I would love to hear your reflections. Share with me in the comments or within our sacred community.

A Sacred Invitation

If you feel called to walk deeper into ancestral traditions and feminine spiritual power, I invite you to join me inside The Sacred Calabash Ileke Initiation — a 12-week journey to consciously step onto the Ifa-Orisha path, rooted in love, wisdom, and sacred remembrance.

May Yemoja's waters bless you now and always.

Ase.💙
